DROGHEDA MINDS EXHIBITION
Drogheda Minds is a new community-wide project that puts ‘mindfulness’ very much at the fore of how we interact with our classmates, friends, parents, colleagues, teachers and so on.
Drogheda Minds is the Drogheda Local Education Committee’s 2014 follow-up initiative to Drogheda Reads Roddy Doyle and Drogheda Counts – both very successful community projects involving school children and their families.
Following an art competition in the participating schools, a wonderful exhibition of over 1500 posters – everybody who took part - took place in the Barbican Centre on January 29th 2014.
The four deserving winners in each category were:
Posters and bookmarks detailing where young and old can find help and support have been developed from the winning entries and these are on display in schools, public offices, surgeries and sporting organisations across Drogheda.
Mayor of Drogheda, Cllr Richie Culhane welcomed everybody to the event before Gretta Bohan, Chairperson, Drogheda Local Education Committee, outlined how the initiative came about. John Ruddy from the Connect Family Resource Centre in Moneymore, who oversaw the staging of the event, explained the inspiration behind the spectacular exhibition.
Drogheda Local Education Committee chairperson Gretta Bohan said: "we promised every young person who participated in the design competition that their poster would be displayed and that's exactly what happened. We hope this event will go a long way to raise awareness around mental health.”
